Just Say NO to Rote!

Learn From a Jeopardy Champion!

Hi, I'm Joyce! I'm an actor and a 3-day champion on the game show Jeopardy. As an actor, I struggled with memorizing lines, but as a trivia enthusiast, I learned several simple, easy techniques to boost my memory. I delved deep into the science of memory and learning and figured out what works and what doesn't.

I understand that memorizing dramatic text is unlike memorizing anything else. So I created a comprehensive memorization method tailor-made just for actors. In the course, I'll teach you my method step-by-step so you can learn how to memorize lines quickly and easily. You'll walk away with an invaluable skill that will support you and be there for you throughout your career.

Did you know having a dirty mind boosts your memory?

BE HONEST. How much is poor line memorization holding you back?

IMAGINE simply reacting and listening to your scene partner, rather than worrying about your next line.

IMAGINE being totally in the moment, acting spontaneously, without panicking you might draw a blank.

IMAGINE never feeling embarrassed or ashamed about lines ever again.

Did you know you can remember MORE, by studying LESS?

Off Book It combines the insights from three fields of knowledge: cognitive psychology, ancient mnemonics, and modern acting. It synthesizes these insights into an innovative memorization method specifically designed for actors memorizing dramatic text.

Cognitive Psychology

Cognitive psychology is the scientific study of mental processes, including perception, memory, attention, problem-solving, and learning. Several research findings in this field show us how we can improve learning and increase memory retention and recall.

Ancient Mnemonics

You know those people you hear about sometimes who can memorize a whole deck of cards or 1,000 digits of pi? They're not prodigies or super geniuses. The techniques they use can be learned easily by anyone, and they've been around for thousands of years.

Modern Acting

Many of the standard practices actors employ to analyze a text and bring a role to life have been shown in studies to aid in the memorization of text. These include breaking a text into beats, finding objectives, and finding causal connections in the text.

  • How to cut down HOURS of study time.

  • How to memorize lines DEEPLY so recitation becomes effortless.

  • How to optimally organize and break down a text.

  • How to use creative imagery to create mnemonic devices.

  • How to troubleshoot particularly difficult spots.

  • How to memorize your cues.

  • How to retain flexibility in acting choices while memorizing.

  • How to avoid getting locked into a "line reading."

  • How to synthesize acting work with memory work.

All the techniques used in The Off Book It method are science-backed and proven!

I used to find it very difficult to memorize scripts for auditions when given only 2-3 days to prepare. But after taking the course, I have a systematic approach that really helps me, and I’ve found that learning the lines is a lot faster now. I noticed that I didn’t even "freak out" when I had 3-5 separate scripts to learn. I’m calm because I have a reliable memorization system. Before the course, I looked at each set of sides as an ocean to sail across. Now I see the sides as a river that is easily forded. I can now go on tape fully off book with confidence in my ability to create the character.
